Hiking into the mountains, to the lakes set between the monumental South Sister and Broken Top in late September, you can see a seasonal delight: South Sister with no snow. The enchantment of the mountains covered in snow are undeniable, but the colors of these volcanic mountains when their rocks are exposed are enchanting in their own right, with rick hues of purple red, boldened by the mountains crevasses and craters.
